Pure ascending postural distortional pattern linked to abnormal foot pronation right > left.  This model assumes there are no concurrent cranial pathomechanics resulting in a mixed distortional pattern (both ascending and descending).

(1)    The abnormal pronation pattern of right > left pulls both innominates anteriorly (right more than left, because the right foot is more pronated than the left foot).

(2)    This results in a functionally short right leg. The pelvis tilts downward to the right.

(3)    The lumbar spine compensates by side bending left which places the right quadratus laborum muscle on a stretch

(4)    This can entrap the 3rd lumbar spinal nerve (right side), resulting in paresthesia or radicular pain.

(5)    The cervical spine counterbalances the lumbar side bending by side bending right which places the left rectus capitis major posterior muscle on a stretch.

(6)    This can entrap the greater occipital nerve (left side), resulting in paresthesia or radiating pain into the neck and head.

Note that this distortional pattern is very similar to Zink’s description of the common compensatory pattern.  An abnormal foot pronation pattern of left > right results in a distortional pattern that is a mirror image of the above pattern.
